Frequently asked questions

How many Medicare Advantage plans are available in my North Carolina county for 2027?
It depends on the county: from 11 plans open to everyone in Carteret County to 57 in Davidson and Guilford counties. Enter your ZIP code in the lookup above to see your county’s count, or call Rob Simm at (828) 761-3326.
Is there a $0-premium Medicare Advantage plan in every North Carolina county?
Yes. All 100 North Carolina counties have at least one 2027 Medicare Advantage plan with a $0 monthly plan premium. You still pay your Part B premium ($202.90 a month in 2026; CMS has not yet published the 2027 amount).
What is the most I can pay out of pocket on a Medicare Advantage plan in 2027?
Federal rules cap in-network out-of-pocket spending at $9,850 for 2027. Many North Carolina plans set a lower limit; the lowest in the state is $3,400. Out-of-network costs on PPO plans have a separate, higher limit.
What are Special Needs Plans, and why are they counted separately?
Special Needs Plans (SNPs) are Medicare Advantage plans only for people who qualify: those with both Medicare and Medicaid (D-SNP), certain chronic conditions (C-SNP), or who live in a nursing home (I-SNP). Most people cannot join them, so this lookup counts them separately from the plans open to everyone.
Where do these numbers come from?
From CMS 2027 Medicare Advantage plan data, compiled by GenerationHealth in October 2026. The figures are published under a CC BY 4.0 license, so they can be reused with credit to GenerationHealth.

Does it matter which Medicare carrier you choose?

It doesn’t — because I get paid by the insurance carrier to manage your plan. Most call centers get paid more to steer your business toward certain carriers based on volume and contracts. The only thing I’m optimizing for is making sure you’re covered correctly when you actually need it. That’s what keeps people coming back. And referring their neighbors.
